‘Divergent’ Teaser: The Five Best Scenes according to MTV

MTV shared what they thought the best five scenes from the Divergent Teaser Trailer were…..

tr1

Being Different
When Abnegation-born Beatrice undergoes her aptitude testing (a requirement for all 16-year-olds), she’s delivered unsettling results by administrator Tori (Maggie Q): “You’re different. You don’t fit into a category. They can’t control you. They call it Divergent. You can’t let them find out about you.”

“And what if they already know?” Beatrice asks.

“Then you’re already dead,” Tori warns.

Those words haunt Beatrice, and instead of staying with her friends and family in the faction she knows, she decides to pledge the Dauntless.

tr2

Taking A Flying Leap
Of course, being an initiate in the most fearless of factions is no mean feat. One of Beatrice’s first tasks is to jump from the roof of a seven-story building into Dauntless headquarters — through an ominous black hole. Here we see her, still clad in her Abnegation gray, make the perilous leap, proving her mettle to both the Dauntless leaders and her fellow initiates.

tr3

Going To The Mat
Initiation begins with physical training. Tris (renamed and in her Dauntless black) takes her punches from rival Peter, and later we see her face down hurtling knives, with one whizzing perilously close to her face, nicking her ear and drawing blood. What you don’t see here is that it’s her mentor/love interest Four who’s doing the throwing. (Those Dauntless have a funny way of showing their affection…)

tr4

Getting A Better Vantage Point
In what will probably become one of the most iconic scenes from the film, Tris and Four climb the dilapidated Navy Pier Ferris wheel during a game of Capture the Flag to get a superior view of their competition. It’s a pivotal moment, not only because Four overcomes his own fear (heights!), but because the two share a palpable moment of sexual tension that will soon pay off.

tr5

Kissing Her Hard
And, speaking of pay off … Tris and Four kiss! Tris and Four kiss!

James, who stopped by MTV’s VMA All Access Experience ahead of Sunday’s ceremony, described the smooch thusly to Josh Horowitz: “I just went at it hard, to be honest, because I thought that’s how she wanted it. I thought to assuage any awkwardness I would just go for it. She was kind of batting away my hands. It was kind of nice because we had Miles as Peter literally in the background as we were kissing. He was making hissing noises which actually added to the sexuality.”

What do you think? What was your favourite scene from the teaser trailer?

I loved the “hard kiss” and Tris’ hand “grazing Tobias’ back tattoos” but I also LOVED the knife throwing scene:

The World of Divergent: Infographic explains the factions

Summit Entertainment has been embarking not only on the usual marketing strategies (casting announcements designed to excite the base, Comic-Con appearances), but on creating an infographic like this one that lays out the world of Divergent:

I am a visual learner, and I love this! Plus it makes it easy to explain to my husband, or friends who haven’t read Divergent yet (WHAT?! I know.. they live under a rock!!) What the factions are all about….

Veronica Roth calls ‘Shenangians’ on tumblr to debunk rumors about Allegiant

Veronica

I love that Veronica Roth has a tumblr and communicates through it so openly.

I love the idea of “SHENANIGANS” and this is a must read from her tumblr:

So, every so often an Allegiant “spoiler” will pop up on Tumblr or on Twitter and I get a lot of frantic questions about it. It’s kind of tough to answer those questions, and here’s why:

Reader: “Is it true you said Tobias doesn’t die in the third book? I saw it on Tumblr!”
Me: “It is not true that I said that. I never said anything about who dies or who doesn’t die.”
Reader: “Ahh! This must mean that he DOES die!”
Me: “No, it doesn’t!”
Reader: “So you’re saying he doesn’t?! I am so relieved!”
Me: “I am not saying that either! All I’m saying is that I didn’t say that thing that Tumblr said I said.”
Reader: “Wait, what?”

And so on.

I love that so many people are so concerned about what happens in book 3, because it means that you care, and that is awesome. I am lucky to have readers who want to throttle me for answers, really. I’m just trying to find a way to clarify things without alarming anyone with the pesky limitations of the English language, so here are the things I have actually said about Allegiant:

-It contains both Tris and Tobias’s POVs (points of view), alternating by chapter. (More on that here.)
-It is slightly longer than Divergent and Insurgent
-In it, you will find out what’s outside the fence

…and I’m pretty sure that’s it? And honestly, it’s pretty much all I will say before it comes out, because I want everyone to have a clean slate when they crack it open. Or as clean a slate as possible.

I feel like we need a word for “I did not say [insertspoilerhere] but I’m not saying it’s not true and I’m not saying it is true, I’m just saying that I didn’t say it.”

Maybe it can be…shenanigans?

As in:

Reader: “Veronica, did you say THIS?”
Me: “Shenanigans!”
Reader: “Ah, that clears it up.”

I’m going with it.

In other news, I am REALLY enjoying reading some of your theories about what’s going to happen. We will see if you are right…on October 22nd.

Or whenever you get around to reading it. It’s cool. 68 days left!

I love her… and now we know… don’t believe every rumour you hear… there are often SHENANIGANS!!!

Shailene Woodley’s first ‘sex scene’ in ‘Spectacular Now’ is her favourite scene

specnowWoodley revealed during an interview on The View that she had no issues with  filming the scene, despite it being the first sex scene of her career. She praised co-star Miles Teller, and the realism of the scene.

She explained: “It’s my  favorite scene in the whole movie because it is so real. The audience does feel  uncomfortable watching it, because it almost feels like you’re invading  somebody’s privacy.

“There’s not fancy music playing and there’s not any  exaggeration of what it’s like to be intimate with somebody for possibly the  first time. It’s also just a minute-long shot of us making love.”

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. I appreciate that they tried to make something “real” I have read Shailene say this movie is “the most authentic coming-of-age movie that we’ve had in maybe 20 years” and THAT is exciting!
