Theo James and Shailene Woodley are all set to debut Divergent‘s First Look at the pre-show of MTV VMAs on Sunday, August 25th. MTV has posted an awesome sneak peek from the first look. Check it out by clicking the image below:
Who else fangirled at the awesome sneak peek?! We got a first look at Kate Winslet as Jeanine Matthews, Theo James as Four and so much more. Can’t wait for the full first look to debut!
As our readers must have heard, four Divergent short stories from the point of view of Four, in addition to the one we already have, are on their way. The cover of the first one, The Transfer, is now available online, courtesy Hypable! Check it out and click on the photo to view the full version:
Notice the circle is actually a Dauntless train? Personally I love the effect of that against the dark skyline of Chicago. What do you think?
Releasing between September 3, 2013 and February 11, 2014, they will be available as eBooks first and then the collection of all the stories will be published in paperback later.
Actor Tony Goldwyn, who plays Tris’s dad Andrew Prior in Divergent, talked to Hollywood Crush about the movie, and his role. Check out excerpts below:
On the Prior family:
“We had a wonderful scene that I participated in which was the family together the night before the choosing ceremony,” he said. “It was very good casting of the four of us, Shailene and Ashley [Judd] and Ansel [Elgort], the family, the Priors. We just had this great chemistry together and really felt like a family [living in] the world that Neil [Burger, director] created visually of the Abnegation. We had these two really wonderful days shooting these two scenes, and I’m really excited to see how those turn out.”
On possible reappearance in sequels:
“Veronica Roth said, flatteringly, one of her biggest regrets is that she didn’t write Andrew into the other books, that she killed Andrew off, so I don’t think there’s much hope for a resurrection of the ghost of Andrew. But we’ll see.”
What do you think? Additional scenes in Insurgent or Allegiant involving flashbacks wouldn’t hurt, would it? But I personally think those kind of scenes – if added at all – would stick to Natalie, since Tris sounded a bit closer to her mom.
In a Q & A with Yahoo! Movies, Shailene Woodley talks about playing characters of different ages in her most-talked about current movies – The Descendants, The Spectacular Now and Divergent.
Check out excerpts below:
How do you personally resemble your characters Alexandra from “The Descendants” and Aimee from “The Spectacular Now?”
I’m a mix of all of them. I had the anger and the complex emotional drama of Alexandra. I also had the tenderness and the audacity and the search for knowledge of Aimee. Combining them is a healthy mix of who I was as a teen.
Now you play an honor student that takes to the flask and loses her virginity…
Aimee also comes from a broken family situation but while Alexandra wallowed in self-pity, Aimee found strength and turned it into a passion for future. She did get the grades, and was in the French Club and then she met someone.
And it’s back to being a teenager for “Divergent,” which opens big next March I play Tris, a sixteen to eighteen year old who has to choose to value herself over her family. In the future there are many factions, and once you leave your birth faction you don’t return. In the course of the story Tris experiences the consequences of leaving her family behind. Her actions highlight her bravery and selflessness at the same time.
Have you personally had to break away from your family to hammer out your own identity, particularly as your star has risen? I have the most magical profound family in the planet. I’m grateful for the fact every day. I spend most of my time with family and best friends. They go everywhere with me. I’m lucky that I didn’t have to try and maintain my relationships. They are maintained. You don’t have to think about breathing and I don’t have to worry about losing anybody because we’re all so interwoven into each other so closely.
It’s refreshing to hear the candor in her answers, don’t you think? Read the rest of the interview for more here.
In a new interview from Comic Con with Access Hollywood, Shailene Woodley talked about Divergent movie and revealed this bit of info about the leading characters’ age. According to Shailene, Four is going to be 24/25 and they never mention Tris’s age, so you could just assume she’s 18 or a year older.

I, for one, don’t think it matters at all. Yes, Divergent is about how the young girl has to choose a faction, leave her family and then fight it out for her life, but the age factor never really affects the bigger scheme of things. What do you think?
